Mixed Synthetic Fabrics

2018, for piano and computer, 7'54"
This excerpt, 6'53", recorded Smock Alley Theatre, Dublin, 14 April 2018, Xenia Pestova, piano; Fergal Dowling, computer.

This short work is itself a small album of micro pieces, where each tiny piece is like a swatch of fabric representing one type of material, or one type of behavior, like a small repeating pattern in a potentially larger form. Together these short pieces form a condensed catalogue of interactive examples – mixed (acoustic and synthetic) musical fabrics which demonstrate some primary relationships between live and electronics parts – parallel and sequential actions, interruptions, background washes, foreground answers, and anticipations.

Mixed Synthetic Fabrics was commissioned by Xenia Pestova with funds from the Arts Council Music Commission Award.
