Fake (for piano and computer with anticipatory score following) was developed in collaboration with Zubin Kanga (piano) and uses anticipatory score following and generative computer music to create a fake piano player accompaniest.
The work unfolds in a series of variations and interaction types, which vary in thematic, synthesis, and instrumental gesture. The formal plan alternates two ideas: chromatic themes expanding around a series of tonal centres and irregular widely leaping gestures. The work uses score following techniques in combination with generative computer responses to reveal progressively more elaborate interactions. It is a sister piece to Double, for flute and electronics.
